A different way to learn

Distance education courses include: WisLine Video, Point-to-Point, Online, and WisLine Web delivery modes. These courses are offered to expand on-campus offerings by providing a mechanism for students to take courses at a distance (or from home via the internet).

Course Modes

WisLine Video (CV)

WisLine Video utilizes audio, computer, and video links simultaneously. This enables faculty and students to converse and interact with each other’s coursework while viewing each other in a real-time classroom setting. These courses are listed in the UW-Eau Claire –Barron County Course Schedule and can be identified by their section number - Section C371, C372, etc. WisLine Video classes meet in the Student Center in rooms SC404, SC405, and SC 406.

Streaming Video

For streaming video courses, lectures are recorded and made available via the internet. Class participation and assignment submission may take place online or may be combined with on-campus class attendance. Students should contact the instructor for details on how streaming video is used in a specific course. There is a per credit Tech Fee for streaming video courses.

Point to Point (PTP)

Point to Point Classes (PTP) are Compressed Video classes that connect UW-Eau Claire – Barron County students with students on one other UW system school. The faculty teaching the class may be at either site. Point to Point classes meet in the Student Center in rooms SC404, SC405, and SC 406.

Online (ONL)

In UWC Online courses, students and faculty interact with each other as class members totally over the Internet. Instructional courseware utilizes web pages, discussion groups, and email. Online courses do not meet at a particular time or place, but they are structured within the academic semester time frame and require class participation several times each week. These courses have different tuition, fees, and payment requirements; they are listed separately on page 20 and 21 of the UWBC Course Schedule and at UW Colleges Online.

WisLine Web (WLW)

WisLine Web links an audio connection with the common web-based innovative courseware. This enables faculty and students to converse while interacting with each other's documents and graphics in a real time classroom setting. Note: There is a per credit technology fee for all WLW courses. These courses are listed in the UW-BC Course Schedule and can be identified by their section number — Section C311. WLW classes meet in the Student Center in SC407.

There is also a rebuilt multi-purpose DE room in the Library, LIB 513, where video and WisLine Web classes and meetings can be held when necessary.
