Maj. Kristin Walukas, commander of the Eau Claire Composite Squadron of the Wisconsin Wing Civil Air Patrol, is the featured speaker for the March 12 Thursdays at the U program at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire – Barron County.
Maj. Kristin Walukas
Her presentation, “Civil Air Patrol: ‘Wings of Service,’” will run from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall in Ritzinger Hall and also will be livestreamed at ricelaketv.com.
Walukas will describe how people can serve their communities through CAP. As the official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, CAP offers adults from all backgrounds the chance to take flight literally and figuratively. It is a place for those who feel the call to serve, to lead and to make a difference.
Whether soaring through the skies, mentoring youth in aviation and leadership or supporting missions on the ground, CAP members are prepared to protect communities, inspire the next generation and uphold the spirit of volunteerism that strengthens our nation.
In addition to her role as commander, Walukas is chief of staff for education and support for the Wisconsin Wing. She joined CAP in 2015 as an aerospace education member when her daughter joined as a cadet. After seeing firsthand the impact of the cadet program, Walukas became a full adult member in 2016. She is active in supporting all three missions of CAP: cadet programs, aerospace education and emergency services.
The Thursdays at the U weekly series is free and open to the public thanks to support from the UW-Eau Claire – Barron County Foundation. Neither seating reservations nor parking permits are needed for in-person attendees.
While in-person attendance is encouraged, most presentations in the series are livestreamed and archived on the Thursdays at the U webpage.
The next program in the series will be March 26, with author Doug Hoverson presenting “Beer Barrons: Brewing in Rice Lake and Northwest Wisconsin.”
