Dr. Brian Waabishki-makwa McInnes, a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and UW-Madison, is the featured speaker for the Sept. 18 Thursdays at the U presentation at UW-Eau Claire – Barron County.

He will present “Sacred Wisdom-Sacred Earth: Stories and Reflections from Indigenous Wisconsin” from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall in Ritzinger Hall. The presentation also will be livestreamed at ricelaketv.com.
McInnes, a member of the Wasauksing First Nation, is an author, producer and professional educator interested in language and culture revitalization, Indigenous history and the protection and care of traditional landscapes. He has a deep interest in the preservation of Native cultures and languages and is an accomplished speaker, presenter and writer in English and Ojibwe.
Before joining the Universities of Wisconsin faculty, McInnes served as a professor of education and a distinguished teaching professor in the University of Minnesota system.
The Thursdays at the U weekly series is free and open to the public thanks to support from the UW-Eau Claire – Barron County Foundation. Neither seating reservations nor parking permits are needed for in-person attendees.
Although in-person attendance is encouraged, most talks in the series are livestreamed. They also are archived and can be watched later on the Thursdays at the U webpage.
The next lecture in the series will be Sept. 25, with Roger Gray presenting “Bicycle Rides Across America.”
