Dr. Ann Brand, a certified mindfulness teacher, is the featured speaker for the Feb. 13 Thursdays at the U presentation at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire – Barron County.

Dr. Ann Brand
With the ever-changing nature of our current world, our minds constantly buzz with endless tasks, worries and responsibilities. With these demands on our time and attention, we can find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, stressed and exhausted. We lose sight of what matters as our attention gets pulled in multiple directions. And, we have difficulty focusing on our goals.
We miss moments of ordinary joy and contentment that we need to help us find calm and clarity to weather life’s ups and downs. In this session, Brand will share mindfulness tools that cultivate present-moment awareness to support focusing our attention and following our intentions, allowing us to stay true to what really matters to us at all phases of life.
Brand received mindfulness teaching certification through the Mindfulness Training Institute and the International Mindfulness Teachers Association. She is an associate lecturer at UW-Stout and a program specialist in mindfulness training for Arts Integration Menomonie.
Brand holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Michigan and master’s and doctoral degrees in psychology with an emphasis on child and adolescent clinical psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The Thursdays at the U weekly series is free and open to the public thanks to support from the UW-Eau Claire – Barron County Foundation. Neither seating reservations nor parking permits are needed for in-person attendees.
Although in-person attendance is encouraged, most talks in the series are livestreamed. They also are archived and can be watched later on the Thursdays at the U webpage.
The next lecture in the series will be Feb. 20, with Jesse Roesler presenting “The Power of Visual Storytelling.”
