Abbey Krumrie and an owl friend
She will present “Raptors of the Driftless” from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall in Ritzinger Hall. The presentation also will be livestreamed at ricelaketv.com.
Throughout all time, raptors have been known for their ferocity, majesty and hunting prowess. During Krumrie’s interactive program, she will introduce a live hawk, falcon and owl and share some of the incredible adaptations that make raptors special.
Krumrie also will explain why raptors are so important to the world around us and what people can do to help raptors of the Driftless Area thrive.
Abbey and Joe Krumrie founded River Valley Raptors Inc. in 2018. Native to the Driftless Area, the Krumries started working with raptors in 2009 and have served at education and wildlife rehabilitation centers throughout the U.S. Both are licensed falconers and members of the International Association of Avian Trainers and Educators. Abbey also is a certified professional bird trainer through the International Avian Trainers Certification Board.
The Thursdays at the U weekly series is free and open to the public thanks to support from the UW-Eau Claire – Barron County Foundation. Neither seating reservations nor parking permits are needed for in-person attendees.
Although in-person attendance is encouraged, most talks in the series are livestreamed. They also are archived and can be watched later on the Thursdays at the U webpage.
The next lecture in the series will be Oct. 9, with Ben Popp presenting “The American Birkebeiner, 1973 to Today.”
