De Anna Westphal from the Reindeer Hill agritourism destination in Cameron will kick off the spring Thursdays at the U series Jan. 29 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire – Barron County.
Her presentation, “Building the Herd at Reindeer Hill,” will run from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall in Ritzinger Hall and also will be livestreamed at ricelaketv.com.
Westphal will describe Reindeer Hill’s one-of-a-kind farm experience, where reindeer are the heart of the operation. She will discuss antler life cycles, seasonal behaviors and the animals’ gentle personalities.
Attendees will learn what it’s like to wander through recreational areas shared with chickens and ducks, each playing a role in the farm’s vibrant ecosystem. Westphal also will highlight her family’s on-site restaurant, 6Four Accord.
The Thursdays at the U weekly series is free and open to the public thanks to support from the UW-Eau Claire – Barron County Foundation. Neither seating reservations nor parking permits are needed for in-person attendees.
While in-person attendance is encouraged, most presentations in the series are livestreamed and archived on the Thursdays at the U webpage.
The next program in the series will be Feb. 5, with Dr. Matthew Meyer, professor of philosophy at UW-Eau Claire, presenting “AI and Our Humanity.”
