Is it possible to live better with less? David Welder, an environmental engineer and naturalist, will describe his “retro-revolutionary” approach to saving natural resources, money and sanity during his Thursdays at the U presentation Nov. 14 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire – Barron County.
Welder will present “Living Off the Grid” from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall in Ritzinger Hall. The presentation also will be livestreamed at ricelaketv.com.
Pine Run Press recently published Welder’s book “Forth to Basics: A Guide to Goin’ Off-Grid (and living more with less),” which offers pragmatic, common-sense ideas for building a simpler life off the beaten track. Welder writes and speaks straight to the point with a dose of humor, giving the impression that you’re sitting by the wood stove in his hand-hewn home.
His recent public speaking engagements have included a live interview on “The Larry Meiller Show” on Wisconsin Public Radio and a presentation at the 2023 Midwest Renewable Energy Association’s green energy fair.
The Thursdays at the U weekly series is free and open to the public thanks to support from the UW-Eau Claire – Barron County Foundation. Neither seating reservations nor parking permits are needed for in-person attendees.
Although in-person attendance is encouraged, most talks in the series are livestreamed. They also are archived and can be watched later on the Thursdays at the U webpage.
The next lecture in the series will be Nov. 21, with Dr. Jill Doerfler presenting “The Invention and Imposition of Blood Quantum.”
