Neal Rosenberg, the northwest hatchery group leader for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in Spooner, is the featured speaker for the Thursdays at the U series Oct. 30 at the University of Wisconsin – Barron County.
Neal Rosenberg
He will present “Monsters of the Lakes” from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall in Ritzinger Hall. The presentation also will be livestreamed at ricelaketv.com.
When you hear “Monsters of the Lakes,” your mind might jump to the famous Nessie of Loch Ness or Tahoe Tessie, the serpent-like creature rumored to inhabit Lake Tahoe. While these are captivating legends passed down through generations, what if Wisconsin’s own lakes and rivers harbored ancient, monstrous beings?
During his Thursdays at the U talk, Rosenberg will dive into the depths to uncover a handful of local creatures that are true monsters in their own right, dwelling in the waters of Wisconsin.
Rosenberg manages several fish hatcheries in northern Wisconsin, where he leads a dedicated team. A resident of Trego, also known as “Wild River City,” he holds degrees in fish and wildlife management from Hocking Technical College and fish management from Ohio State University.
The Thursdays at the U weekly series is free and open to the public thanks to support from the UW-Eau Claire – Barron County Foundation. Neither seating reservations nor parking permits are needed for in-person attendees.
Although in-person attendance is encouraged, most talks in the series are livestreamed. They also are archived and can be watched later on the Thursdays at the U webpage.
The next lecture in the series will be Nov. 6, with Lee and Mary Graese presenting “Northstar Bison: Hobby to Business.”
