Allie Musolf and Sarah Wittrock are the featured speakers for the Oct. 17 presentation of the Thursdays at the U series at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire – Barron County.
They will present “Domestic Violence: Personal and Factual” from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall in Ritzinger Hall. The presentation also will be livestreamed at ricelaketv.com.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in four women and one in four men have experienced some form of physical abuse by an intimate partner. For one in seven women and one in 25 men, the abuse is severe enough to result in injury.
Musolf is a domestic violence program coordinator for Embrace, a nonprofit organization that provides safe shelter and services to survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault in Rusk, Washburn, Barron and Price counties. She will share facts about domestic violence and will talk about Embrace’s mission and vision.
Wittrock will speak about her experience as a victim of spousal abuse, her life as a domestic abuse survivor, her journey of recovery and the new freedoms she has gained.
Musolf was a student at UW-Eau Claire – Barron County in 2010 and since then has studied journalism, veterinary medicine and social work. She considers herself to be a continuous learner and is a “dog mom” to two.
Wittrock attended UW-Eau Claire – Barron County for two years. She then graduated from UW-Stout with a degree in human development and family studies. She currently is a substitute teacher and a parent to two wonderful children.
The Thursdays at the U weekly series is free and open to the public thanks to support from the UW-Eau Claire – Barron County Foundation. Neither seating reservations nor parking permits are needed for in-person attendees.
Although in-person attendance is encouraged, most talks in the series are livestreamed. They also are archived and can be watched later on the Thursdays at the U webpage.
The next lecture in the series will be Oct. 24, with Patti See presenting “Writing Where You Live.”
