Chef Christopher Ray is the featured speaker for the Nov. 7 presentation of the Thursdays at the U series at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire – Barron County.
He will present “Balancing the Plate: A Chef’s Life” from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall in Ritzinger Hall. The presentation also will be livestreamed at ricelaketv.com.
“A chef must think like a scientist, organize like an accountant, plate like an artist and cook like a grandma,” Ray says. “Recipes do not cook the food — the chef does.”
Ray, owner of the boutique catering company Five Course Catering, is a certified chef of the U.S. Personal Chef Association, a member of the World Association of Chefs’ Societies and the author of two books on game cookery, “The Wild Menu” and “Wild, Wild Cooking.”
Early in his career, Ray was recognized with many awards, honors and accolades, including National Restaurant of the Year by America’s Pork Producers; National Chef of the Year runner up, as voted by Chef Magazine; and Best Specialty Ethnic Restaurant by Minnesota Monthly. He also toured the country as part of the “Celebrated Chef” program of the National Pork Producers.
The Thursdays at the U weekly series is free and open to the public thanks to support from the UW-Eau Claire – Barron County Foundation. Neither seating reservations nor parking permits are needed for in-person attendees.
Although in-person attendance is encouraged, most talks in the series are livestreamed. They also are archived and can be watched later on the Thursdays at the U webpage.
The next lecture in the series will be Nov. 14, with David Welder presenting “Living Off the Grid.”
