Dr. Zach Feiner, a fisheries ecologist at University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Center for Limnology, is the featured speaker for the Sept. 11 Thursdays at the U presentation at UW-Eau Claire – Barron County.

Dr. Zach Feiner
Feiner will present “Lake Responses to Wisconsin’s Changing Winters” from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall in Ritzinger Hall. The presentation also will be livestreamed at ricelaketv.com.
Feiner will discuss how winters are changing in Wisconsin due to climate change, and how reduced or lost ice cover on our lakes impact how they function and provide habitat to plankton, fish and other animals.
Feiner studies fish populations in inland lakes, rivers and the Great Lakes across the Upper Midwest. His research focuses on the dynamics and management of recreational fisheries, including who fishes, what they fish for and how they value fishing. In addition, he studies how climate change is affecting our lakes, including the fish populations and communities that live in them.
The Thursdays at the U weekly series is free and open to the public thanks to support from the UW-Eau Claire – Barron County Foundation. Neither seating reservations nor parking permits are needed for in-person attendees.
Although in-person attendance is encouraged, most talks in the series are livestreamed. They also are archived and can be watched later on the Thursdays at the U webpage.
The next lecture in the series will be Sept. 18, with Dr. Brian McInnes presenting “Sacred Wisdom-Sacred Earth: Stories and Reflections from Indigenous Wisconsin.”
